Chapter Summary
Nick talks about the people who attended Gatsby’s parties in the summer and the list only contains people who are socialites and high in society, showing that everyone who is anyone is at Gatsby’s parties. Gatsby relays his past to Nick and elaborates being in the army and attending Oxford. This adds to his image of living a grand life, but it causes Nick and the reader to question if there is truth within his story or if he is trying to convince Nick of a false life. Gatsby takes Nick out to lunch, where they meet Mr. Wolfsheim, who seems to be a dishonest and corrupt man; they also meet Jordan at lunch. At lunch, Jordan links Gatsby to Daisy and tells Nick that the two used to be in love, but Gatsby moved away, Daisy married Tom and has remained faithful to him, and Daisy hasn't seen Gatsby in four years.
